THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that “nobody has the monopoly of causing violence” amid the ongoing political tension between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike made this statement in Port Harcourt today during an event organized by the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress in his honor.

During the event, Wike sought to clarify the misconception that Fubara’s views represented those of the entire Ijaw people, as the two politicians vie for political influence.

He expressed his gratitude for the gathering, saying, “Let me thank this team for today’s strategic meeting. When Senator Johnson Nsakebor, on behalf of the Rivers Ijaw Congress, approached me with the idea of honoring me, I asked why they would spend such money on me. I suggested they give me the money instead. But he explained that many people go on TV claiming to speak for the Ijaw people, and I agreed to come and address the matter.”

Wike continued, “This event today sends a clear message to those in Abuja who misunderstand the situation. If anyone claims that the Ijaw people are against me, it is false. Ungrateful individuals exist everywhere. A father can have twelve children, and if one becomes an armed robber, it doesn’t mean the entire family are criminals.”

He further criticized those speaking against him, saying, “People who go on television claiming the Ijaw people are against me should be questioned. All the Ijaw members of the House of Assembly were strategically positioned by us.”

Wike also highlighted his role in Fubara’s political rise, stating, “I made an Ijaw man the governor of Rivers State. God used us, and many of us sacrificed sleepless nights for this. Who loves the Ijaw people more—those of us who made this happen or those who can’t even make their Ijaw brother governor? If they were so powerful, why has an Ijaw never been governor since the old Rivers State?”

He concluded by reiterating, “I’ve told people, nobody has a monopoly on causing violence. We choose to follow the rule of law and remain calm to ensure our state stays attractive to investors, and we will continue on that path.”
