The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewale Adebayo, has asserted that the violent standoff between rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday at the party’s headquarters was not surprising.
Naijaonpoint reports that trouble erupted when rival factions, led by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, clashed over control of the party’s headquarters amid the ongoing leadership dispute.
However, Adebayo, in an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, lashed out at the PDP, noting that the party was very lawless when they were in power.
Adebayo also frowned at the role of police officers during the chaos.
He said, “With respect to the catastrophe that occurred at the PDP headquarters yesterday, no one is surprised.
“When it was in government, it was a very lawless party that was doing all the rigging and manipulation. And now that they are out of government, they are cannibalising each other.
“What I found concerned there is the role played by the police because the police belong to all of us but PDP belongs to its members. I am concerned if the police are being used to be on either sides.”
