THE governors from Nigeria’s North-East have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the completion of key road projects and revive oil exploration efforts in the region, particularly in the Kolmani and Lake Chad basins.
The request was made during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday where the governors, led by Borno State’s Babagana Zulum, discussed pressing developmental needs with the President.
The agenda centred on 17 critical road projects—including the Kano-Maiduguri highway, the Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri railway line, and other inter-state routes linking Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States.
Governor Zulum, who chairs the North-East Governors’ Forum, commended the Tinubu administration for its role in restoring peace to the region and sustaining counter-insurgency efforts.
“We thank you for fostering stability and continuing the initiative of your predecessor in tackling insurgency,” he said.
He further highlighted the governors’ alignment with Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” stressing their commitment to manpower training, technological deployment, and agricultural development as tools to curb insecurity and boost food security.
Other governors at the meeting included Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
In response, President Tinubu acknowledged the governors’ concerns and assured them of his government’s readiness to deliver on infrastructure and energy development in the North-East, promising that their requests would be given priority attention.
