The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and the FCT chapter, has commended the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, for the arrest of two key leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group.
The association also praised Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his efforts in promoting inclusive governance and infrastructure development across the state.
Rev. John Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN, gave the commendation on Monday during an interaction with newsmen in Kaduna.
He described the arrest of Mahmud Muhammad Usman (also known as Abu Bara’a) and his deputy, Mahmud al-Nigeri (alias Mallam Mamuda), as a significant breakthrough in the country’s fight against terrorism.
According to Hayab, the arrests, carried out between May and July through intelligence-led operations by the NSA’s office in collaboration with security agencies, marked a turning point in counter-terrorism efforts.
Hayab said: “We do not want to be people who only grumble and accuse. When we see what is right, we must acknowledge it.
“Ribadu deserves enormous credit for the deliberate, intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of some of Nigeria’s most wanted terrorists.”
He called for sustained intelligence operations and the identification of sponsors of terrorism, stressing that lasting peace requires accountability and justice.
Turning to governance, Hayab commended Sani’s inclusive approach and infrastructure projects, especially ongoing road works across the state.
While acknowledging that some areas still required urgent attention, he said that visible progress had been made.
“We cannot expect all roads to be repaired in one day, but if work continues in phases, people will see real development in the next one or two years,” he said.
The CAN leader also urged the Governor to ensure fair distribution of projects and appointments across all communities, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
“Past cultures of neglect must not return. Inclusiveness, fairness, and equity are key to sustainable development,” Hayab added.
He called for more opportunities for qualified Christians in Northern Nigeria to contribute to governance, while urging that such appointments must be genuine and not exploitative.
Hayab appealed for unity among Nigerians, emphasising that positive feedback encourages leaders to do more, while silence or division only emboldens bad actors.
“Let us unite across ethnic and religious divides. Constructive engagement is the way forward,” he urged.
