Not Atletico Madrid: Spanish La Liga giants considering a move for Ademola Lookman

27-time La Liga Champions, Barcelona, are currently monitoring the transfer situation of Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Olajade Lookman, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old attacker has been linked with several clubs since he netted a hat-trick against Bayer 04 Leverkusen back in May 2024, and his stocks have soared since he was crowned the Best African Player for 2024.

According to Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, Ademola Lookman is the subject of interest from five-time UEFA Champions League winners, Barcelona.

The Catalan side are in the transfer market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window, considering they have no natural left-sided attacker in the team.

Raphinha, despite his excellent output this season, has been playing out of position as a left winger. As a result, the Atalanta forward has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana, with the Serie A giants demanding around €50 million to sell the Super Eagles star.

With uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres, Hansi Flick’s side are considering several candidates like Luis Diaz and Ademola Lookman.

It is believed in the Spanish camp that the possible sale of Fati and Ferran Torres will be able to raise funds for the arrival of either Diaz or Lookman.

Lookman’s current deal with Atalanta runs out in the summer of 2026, and both parties have not started discussions about a possible renewal, hinting at an exit avenue for the player.

Barca’s interest in Lookman will face stuff competition from their rivals, Atletico Dé Madrid if they submit an official bid. Diego Simeone’s side view Lookman as a perfect replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

The former Everton man has scored 18 goals and provided six assists across all competitions for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this campaign.
