Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has stated that he is targeting a victory against Benin when both teams clash in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria take on Benin in their penultimate game of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Thursday.

The three-time African champions have all but sealed their place at the African showpiece. However, the Super Eagles have an itch to scratch as Benin are close rivals and they need to instill some fear in them before both teams clash in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers next year.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen has the full complement of his squad, and it will be a level playing ground as the game will be on a level playing ground.

Ahead of the fixture, Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong has stated that he does not expect an easy ride. Still, he expects his side to emerge victorious.

“The stadium is a familiar one for us and we have good memories from the AFCON. We will rather focus on the positive results we have taken away from here and work hard for another good day in the office on Thursday,” Troost-Ekong said, per Oga Nla media.

“It is not going to be easy because the Beninoise are also chasing a ticket to the final tournament. However, our objective is clear: three points on the night.”

As Nigeria have qualified for the AFCON, coach Augustine Eguavoen may use the opportunity to try out new players.
