A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), George Agbakahi, has stated that politicians are defecting to the party because, for the first time since 1999, the party is truly united.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television, Agbakahi argued that there is nothing inherently wrong with a one-party dominance.
He stated that the APC realised it had made a mistake in the past and has decided to retrace its steps.
According to him, “It may not become a one-party state, but it will be a one-party dominant system, and there is nothing wrong with that.
“What you saw in Enugu over the weekend was a profound and resounding endorsement of President Bola Tinubu. The APC gathering that was televised nationally elicited tremendous enthusiasm. There was a great feeling of love and an outpouring of support among APC members in the Southeast.
“In the past, we in APC realized that we made a mistake in the 2023 election, and now we won’t continue to do that again. The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, who is the political leader of the Southeast, as well as the other two governors of Ebonyi and Enugu states, have now come together with Southeast members of the National Working Committee.”
