NPFL: Remo Stars show champion spirit with dramatic fightback against Lobi in 4-goal thriller

Remo Stars underlined their title credentials with a spirited second-half comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Lobi Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League clash on Wednesday evening, Footynaija.com reports.

The Ikenne-based side arrived in Enugu with the goal of restoring their eight-point cushion at the top of the table after Rivers United had narrowed the gap to five following a 1-0 win over Remo at the weekend.

But bottom-placed Lobi Stars, fighting for their top-flight survival, had other ideas.

Despite currently playing their home matches at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu due to issues with their Makurdi base, Lobi were fast out of the blocks and quickly imposed themselves.

Johnmark Aule broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a composed finish. Just minutes later, Onyekachi Okafor doubled their advantage from the penalty spot to leave Remo reeling and dreaming of an unlikely away win.

However, the league leaders showed the character and determination that has kept them on top of the NPFL this season.

Ten minutes after the interval, Hadi Haruna pulled one back for Remo Stars with a well-taken strike, igniting belief in the visitors.

The comeback was completed in the 70th minute when Joshua Abah – signed after his spell at Lebanese side Shabab Al Ghazieh – netted his first goal for the club, drawing the tie level in dramatic fashion.

Lobi Stars remain at the foot of the table, and with six games to go, face an uphill battle to escape relegation.

In contrast, Daniel Ogunmodede‘s Remo Stars now enjoy a seven-point lead over second-placed Rivers United and continue their quest to claim a historic first-ever NPFL title.

Should they succeed, Remo Stars would become the first privately owned club to win the Nigerian league since Ocean Boys lifted the trophy in 2006 – a milestone achievement in their 15-year existence.
