National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman Shehu Dikko has expressed his strong commitment to enhancing school sports in Nigeria during a recent meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), led by President Temitope Olabisi.

At the meeting, Dikko showcased an inscription that read “Yes! To School Sports,” emphasizing the critical role of collaboration between the NSC and NSSF in achieving their mutual goals for grassroots sports development.

The discussion revolved around actionable strategies to elevate school sports programs nationwide, including building partnerships, improving infrastructure, and promoting increased student participation.

Dikko’s dedication to grassroots sports development aligns with ambitious plans to enhance sports infrastructure throughout the country, especially given the Federal Government’s augmented allocation to the sports sector for the 2025 fiscal year.

In a recent budget session with the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Dikko outlined plans to construct 100 mini-stadiums across the nation, reinforcing efforts to advance sports development at the grassroots level.

“The commission is focused on revitalizing Nigeria’s sports sector in line with global best practices,” Dikko told the committee members.

House Committee chairman Kabiru Amadu praised President Bola Tinubu for significantly increasing the sports budget from N29.08 billion in 2024 to N94.95 billion in 2025, marking a substantial 227 per cent increase.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for this remarkable boost in budgetary allocation to the sports sector. We are optimistic that this increase will catalyze a transformative shift in the development, administration, and management of sports activities in Nigeria,” Amadu remarked.
