The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed an assistant commandant general (ACG) alongside 37 other senior officers over gross misconduct and insubordination.
Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC spokesperson, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
A total of 76 personnel, including both senior and junior staff, faced sanctions in 2025 for offences ranging from extortion and job racketeering to fraud, absence without leave, gun running, and other serious breaches of the corps’ code of conduct.
Ahmed Audi, commandant general of the NSCDC, said the disciplinary measures were implemented following recommendations from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) and the corps’ senior and junior disciplinary committees.
The statement disclosed that 38 senior officers were relieved of their duties for acts deemed unbecoming of superior officers in line with the public service rules.
Two senior officers were demoted by two ranks, one officer by a single rank with loss of seniority, while five others received formal warning letters.
Afolabi explained that the junior staff disciplinary committee handled 30 cases involving offences such as aiding illegal petroleum operations, extortion, fraud, and other misconduct.
“After the sittings of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee, 20 personnel were dismissed from service, three were demoted by one rank, while seven personnel were issued warning letters,” he said.
The NSCDC leadership emphasised that the disciplinary actions form part of ongoing reforms to cleanse the corps and enhance public confidence in its operations.
Audi urged all officers to maintain professionalism, stating that the expanding responsibilities of the corps require “loyalty, regimental discipline and commitment.”
