The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command has trained 672 personnel on basic weapons handling between October and July.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu said this on Wednesday, during the Passing-out-Parade of 200 trained personnel in Abuja.
Odumosu, said that the 200 personnel was the third batch while the first and second batches recorded 135 and 137 personnel respectively.
He said that
the trainings were a testament of the command’s unwavering commitment to capacity building, operational readiness and overall enhancement of FCT’s internal security architecture.
“This third batch of graduands in basic weapons handling is a clear testament that we are not resting on our oars as the security landscape in the FCT is evolving and so must we.
“The training of this batch is part of a carefully thought-out series of trainings designed to respond proactively to emerging security threats with precision, discipline, and professionalism.
“These trainings cut across Area Commands and Divisions and this initiative is part of a broader vision to mound a responsive, versatile, intelligent and elite corps in our society,” he said.
The commandant, while congratulating the trainees, reminded them that the completion of the training marked the beginning of added responsibilities.
“Let me remind you that this is just the beginning because the rifle is not merely a weapon; it is a responsibility and so it must not be misused.
“Let discipline, integrity and professionalism be your watchword at all times because the NSCDC uniform you wear is not for harassment or intimidation but for service to the nation,” Odumosu said.
He commended the dedication and hard work of the instructors for their tireless efforts in bringing the training to fruition.
“To all my personnel; thank you immensely for your dedication and commitment support and encouragement at all times.’’
He hailed the heads of FCT paramilitary agencies and other stakeholders who graced the occasion.
“Your presence is not just symbolic; it is deeply motivating, it reflects the synergy we continue to enjoy in our collective efforts to keep the FCT safe,” he said.
The NSCDC boss also lauded the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi and the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike for their support and visionary guidance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that awards were bestowed on personnel who displayed exemplary skills; best shooter, stripling and assembler, instructor during the training. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
