‘NUC Clarified That I Am A Professor’ – Umahi Insists

Dave Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has insisted that he has all the qualifications to be referred to as a Professor in engineering.

Speaking on Saturday during an inspection tour of the Keffi Bridge and the Nasarawa-Toto Road projects, alongside the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, Umahi explained that according to the National Universities Commission (NUC), a person can become a professor by reason of practice.

It would be recalled that Umahi had sparked public debates during a recent interview with journalist, Rufai Useni, in which he referred to himself as a professor.

Amidst the backlash generated by his declaration, Umahi, on Saturday, cited the NUC clarification on who qualifies as a professor, noting that practical experience in the field also counts as expertise.

He argued that by the NUC clarification, he is right to have referred to himself as a professor because he has all the required practical experience in the field of engineering.

“I’m happy that the NUC programme on who is a professor also made me right. You can become a professor by the reason of your practice. And I think God has made me one when it comes to practical, field engineering programmes, that’s what it is; you can’t take it back,” Umahi declared.
