The Nigerian Union of Journalists have honored distinguished personalities who have silently promoted and assisted their communities without blowing their Trumpets
The Award Night organised by the Zone F, South South, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists held on Saturday 21st December 2024 at Farah Lounge, Port Harcourt. Zone F, is the South South members of NUJ comprising of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta States
in his opening remarks at the award and dinner nights The Vice president of Zone F NUJ. Comrade Opaka Dokubo hailed pressmen for their dogged optimism in the face of daunting economic challenges and despite poor Remuneration have continued to push out their stories and urge them not to relent in this pursuit until the light is shun at the end of the Tunnel
The zone F Boss, said “we know you are passionate about story telling and sometimes even at the risk of your life, ensures that your news stables never runs dry, that is why we deem it fit to organize these training at this time of the year despite coming into office less than a month ago, and there is no better time to talk about our region than now, and to steer us to that ship The theme Achieving Regional Integration Through Information Management: The JOURNALIST ROLE for the training which started Four days ago with two days Online and Two day Physical held at NUJ Press council in port Harcourt for journalist from the Braced state cumulated into this dinner to honor some distinguished personalities
The highlights of the award night was the presentation of the NUJ Man of the Year Award to Chief Adokiye Tombomieye, others at the Media Retreat.
Comrade Opaka Dokubo while reading out the profile of Sir Adokiye Tombomieye, FNSE, OON, revealed that he has silently contributed so much to Nigeria while He held affairs’ at the NNPC and to his community Bile without making a single noise and as such must be commended for such huge sacrifice and positive vibes to the region
In the words of the Special guest of honour and the award recipient Sir Adokiye Tombomieye, FNSE, OON, after receiving the award expressed profound gratitude to NUJ President Comrade Ahmed and the executives of both zone F in rivers state for the great honor and privilege’s
He said “Journalists/Story Tellers are always shining the spot light on others and hardly on themselves, therefore they do not see their dance, so when Journalist tells you, you have done well. you have truly done well, that is why I came with this entourage to receive this award because I am so honored, I want to urge you not to relent in pushing out facts about our Region. Always tell positive Stories about our Region, because its what you tell the world that is read and becomes facts because it can be referenced to. “Remember any event that is not reported is still a story”
Our correspondent reports that the event was also used to honour the various Commissioners of Information and their Chief Press Secretaries in the BRACED States.
