Nuno Mendes Responds To Ronaldo’s Criticism For Those Snubbing Portugal

Paris Saint-Germain star, Nuno Mendes has responded to criticism from his national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently expressed his disappointment with players who seem indifferent about representing the Portuguese national team.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarks came in light of several players opting out of the upcoming international matches scheduled for November.

Portugal are set to face Poland at the Estadio do Dragao on November 15, and Mendes is among those players who have chosen to skip this November international break.

In a statement, Ronaldo shared his perspective after being honoured with the Quinas de Platina award in his home country on November 11.

He reflected on his journey with the national team, saying, “When I joined the national team at 18, my dream was to win my first international cap. I’ve now reached 25, 50, and why not 100? And why not 150, 200? It’s a huge sense of pride.”

Ronaldo emphasized the exceptional experience of playing for one’s country, noting, “Even after winning so many trophies, there’s nothing better than playing for the national team, friends. That’s why I’m disappointed with some players who don’t want to represent Portugal. Enjoy the national team; it’ll go by quickly.”

In response, Mendes addressed the media to clarify his stance. He acknowledged Ronaldo’s opinion but emphasized, “Everyone has their own opinion. I can speak for myself. I am very proud to represent Portugal, and I think it shows. I give my all on the pitch and in training. I will always give my all, and I will always be available to be here.”
