The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned in strong terms the assault of one of its female Corps Members by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC described the incident as “unacceptable and dehumanizing,” stressing that the conduct of the vigilante operatives could not be justified under any circumstance.

“Management strongly condemns the unacceptable and dehumanising manner in which the operatives conducted their operations, irrespective of their initial justification for the purported investigation they set out to carry out at the facility where the Corps Members were accommodated,” the statement read.

The NYSC assured that it fully supports the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police into the incident, expressing confidence that the probe would unravel what transpired and deliver justice to the Corps Member involved, as well as other aggrieved parties.

It added that administrative measures are already being taken to provide necessary support for the affected Corps Member, particularly in helping her cope with the psychological and emotional trauma caused by the assault.

While appreciating the swift response of the Anambra State Government and the concern of Nigerians over the development, the NYSC reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of Corps Members across the country.

“Management wishes to use this medium to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members nationwide. Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the statement concluded.
