The National Youth Service Corps has resumed payment of arrears to corps members after a two-month suspension.

Naijaonpoint reports that the first batch of payments was made on June 3, ending the long wait of beneficiaries who had been expecting the new approved allowance.

The arrears cover the revised ₦77,000 monthly allowance introduced by the Federal Government.

They apply not only to serving corps members but also to those who have already completed their service year.

Naijaonpoint reports that the payment spans from July 2024 to March 2025.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, had earlier explained that all eligible members would receive their arrears once funds were released.

He also said that records of recent graduates had been retained to ensure they were not left out of the adjustment.

He said: “Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details.”

The resumption of payments comes after weeks of frustration among corps members who complained about the delay in implementing the allowance increase.

The increment was introduced by the Tinubu-led Federal government to ease the burden of rising costs of living on Nigerian youths.
