Obasanjo Makes Demand From Tinubu’s Government On Education

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the development of a sustainable strategy for financing education in Nigeria.

Obasanjo made the appeal during the 70th birthday celebration of the Vice Chancellor of Bells University, Professor Oludele Ojediran, at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday.

Highlighting the importance of youth empowerment, Obasanjo urged all levels of government to equip young people with the skills and opportunities to become job creators rather than job seekers.

He said, “President Tinubu and the Federal Government must find a means to finance education for its sustainability. Governments at all levels must also empower the youths to become providers of job opportunities.”

Naijaonpoint reports that the former president praised LAUTECH for its role in producing distinguished academics and administrators, citing Professors Adeyemi and Ojediran, who have both served as Vice Chancellors of Bells University, as exemplary figures.

“I have always prioritised education for service rather than profit. Sustaining the educational legacy of our nation is a duty I remain committed to,” Obasanjo added.

Monarch Advocates For Agricultural Innovation

Also speaking at the event, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, commended Obasanjo for his enduring contributions to the education and agricultural sectors in Nigeria.

The monarch encouraged Professor Ojediran, an expert in agricultural engineering, to leverage his knowledge to drive agricultural development in Ogbomoso and its environs.

Oba Olaoye further offered farmland to individuals willing to engage in agricultural ventures, pledging his support for initiatives that would boost local and national development.
