The Obedient Movement, a political organization for the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, has launched a campaign dubbed Get Organized and Make Election Rigging Difficult (GO MERD) in Abia State.
The group aims to campaign and mobilize eligible voters to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the electoral process to bring about good governance.
Speaking at a press briefing in Umuahia on Monday, Comrade Chukwuebuka Eze, the State Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, delivered Peter Obi’s message to Abians, urging Abia residents to get their PVCs and use them to rescue the country from political hijackers.
“We are here to amplify the message of our Principal, Mr Peter Obi, a man who believes in re-setting the country, and making it work for all and the message is that a New Nigeria Is possible,” Eze said.
“Your PVC remains the only weapon for participation in the battle for the rescue of our democracy,” he said.
“The inevitable step towards rescue efforts is the involvement of every eligible person and we urge all eligible voters in Abia, especially those who just turned 18 years, without permanent voter cards, to please take this advantage and opportunity to get their PVC,” he added.
The Obedience Movement also condemned vote-buying, describing it as a wicked exchange of destiny.
“Vote-buying is a wicked exchange of destiny and those who buy votes are not offering you charity. They only invest in their own corruption.
“They buy votes so that they can buy their way into our treasury to steal public money. When they get into that office, they will loot the funds that should have been used to build schools, hospitals or provide good jobs,” he explained.
The movement set a target to mobilize over 4 million voters in Abia State to register for PVCs before 2027.
“We aim to mobilize over 4 million voters in Abia to register for PVC before 2027,” Eze stated.
The GO MERD campaign is part of the movement’s efforts to build a new Nigeria where justice, peace, and prosperity reign.
“A new Nigeria is possible if we all unite and do the needful to stop the mass exodus of our best brains.
“2027 is another opportunity to build a new Nigeria of our dreams and our PVC remains the only weapon to make this happen,” he said.
