The political atmosphere leading up to the 2027 general elections is already heating up as Biodun Ajiboye, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has downplayed the potential threat posed by Peter Obi.
According to the APC stalwart, the former Governor of Anambra State no longer possesses the political fire and massive momentum that defined his campaign during the 2023 presidential race.
While speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ajiboye argued that the wave of support which previously swept through the country in favor of the Labour Party candidate has significantly cooled.
He emphasized that the political dynamics have shifted, suggesting that the “Obidient” movement may not find the same footing it had in the previous election cycle.
Specifically, Ajiboye pointed out that “Obi no longer has firm control of the South-East region as he did during the 2023 elections.”
He noted that the region, which served as a primary stronghold for the former governor, is no longer a monolithic block under his influence, hinting at cracks in his regional support base as other political interests begin to take hold.
The APC chieftain did not stop there; he also addressed the rumors of a possible merger between Obi and the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
Despite the duo collectively garnering over 12 million votes in the last outing, Ajiboye remains confident in the ruling party’s position.
However, he maintained that even if a formal alliance is struck between the two opposition figures, they would still fail to “unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.”
