‘Obi Would Defeat Pablo On Election Day’ – Bashir El-Rufai

Peter Obi Bashir El Rufai

The son of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai, has stated that the growing popularity and strong youth following of the Labour Party’s Peter Obi could pose a significant challenge to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election.

Posting on his 𝕏 handle on Thursday, Bashir acknowledged Atiku’s political strength but suggested that Obi’s influence, particularly among younger voters, has shifted the political dynamics ahead of the next polls.

Bashir noted that the 2019 presidential election was widely regarded as Atiku’s best chance to clinch the presidency.

He said, “Atiku is a force to be reckoned with. He also feels the stars have finally aligned in his favour. And although 2019 is thought to have been his best shot, this may be one of those ‘moment meets the man’.”

Highlighting Obi’s political momentum, Bashir said, “The sheer force of Obi’s numbers and cult-like followership brings a challenge. His appeal across the youth and this younger generation is one profound aspect of his leverage.

“Obi, as a flag bearer with a strong Northern candidate, would defeat Pablo on Election Day before our dear mother of the Nation, Aunty Remi, finishes his breakfast around 12 noon.”

In the last few days, there have been indications that Obi might contest under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), although Obi has insisted that he still remains in the LP.
