The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement issued today. According to Odutola, on February 20, 2025, a farmer, Ogunbayo Adewale from Raka Village, reported to the police that upon visiting his 35-acre cassava farm on February 19 at approximately 4:40 PM, he discovered the farmland had been set on fire. He also claimed to have found cattle grazing on the land, with several cassava plants uprooted. Upon spotting him, the herders allegedly commanded the cattle to flee, but he managed to capture one of the cows and brought it to the police station as evidence. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of FUNAAB Harmony swiftly implemented grassroots policing strategies to ease tensions and prevent potential tribal unrest. Preliminary investigations led to the identification of the cow’s owner, while the complainant estimated the farm damage at N27.3 million. To ensure a fair and thorough probe, the case has been transferred to the surveillance unit for further investigation and necessary legal action. Odutola reassured the public that justice would be served and urged all parties to remain calm while the investigation continues. She emphasized the police command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, preventing inter-group conflicts, and safeguarding citizens’ rights.
