THE Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has distanced itself from a rumoured local government election timetable making round that it would hold elections in October.

This was a response to a news item circulating online titled ‘Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections in Ogun State.’

According to the news item, the commission’s chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, has stated that elections for the state’s 20 local governments and 236 Wards will take place on October 26, 2024.

However, the state electoral commission has stated that no date for the state’s elections has been agreed upon or determined.

It identified the circulating information as the work of fake news merchants and advised the public to disregard it.

The statement emphasized that the public will be properly informed whenever elections for the third tier of government are scheduled, and that the state government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is aware of the importance of local governments as the third tier of government, as well as the need to do what is necessary to enthrone democratically elected representatives.
