Ogun farmers secure market for excess produce

Some farmers in Ogun State have expressed delight at the provision of a stable market for their excess farm produce.

In a statement on Sunday, it was revealed that relief for the farmers came via the intervention of the innovative FoodTec platform PricePally, which is transforming the way farmers sell their goods by providing a reliable and fair-priced alternative to the traditional market, where price fluctuations and oversupply often lead to massive losses.

One of the farmers, Femi Banjo, expressed how he suffered significant losses and took advantage of PricePally to have a financial lifeline.

“After venturing into crop farming, I needed a financial lifeline. The same 10 kg of habanero pepper that someone offered me less for was what PricePally offered me almost N30,000 for. With PricePally, you can never run at a loss. There is always a profit, and they are always ready to buy,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Oled Farms, Seyi Awolola, expressed his relief at finding a solution to the issue of excess supply, commonly known as glut.

“We had a serious glut with tomatoes and couldn’t move our produce. PricePally has given us an avenue to sell and reduce waste. They are now the main market for us because they pay better and provide easy access to buyers,” Awolola said.

Speaking on the reaction of the farmers, Benjamin Ogunbola, GSMA Project Manager at PricePally, highlighted the importance of empowering farmers to strengthen Nigeria’s food supply chain.

He said, “Our farmers are at the core of our mission to make quality food accessible to everyone. By equipping them with the knowledge to grow, harvest, and distribute their produce effectively, we’re not only supporting their livelihoods but also improving food availability and affordability across communities.”
