THE apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has strongly criticized former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for his inflammatory remarks against President Bola Tinubu.

Amaechi’s statements, which included advocating for the use of “brutal force” to seize power in 2027, were described by Ohanaeze Ndigbo as alarming and divisive.

In a statement released in Kaduna today, the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, denounced Amaechi’s rhetoric, calling it a threat to democracy, peace, and national stability.

He further clarified that the Igbo people do not support any political plot aimed at undermining the legitimacy of an elected president.

“Amaechi’s call for Nigerians to resort to ‘brutal force’ in an attempt to take power from President Tinubu in 2027 blatantly contradicts the values of civility, democracy, and peace that we uphold,” Isiguzoro stated.

He also condemned Amaechi’s assertion that politicians should be willing to “steal, maim, and kill” to retain power, describing it as a dangerous and undignified stance that threatens the nation’s social fabric.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo aligned with the position of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, who called on Amaechi to desist from inciting public unrest.

“We fully support the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, in his demand for Mr. Amaechi to retract his divisive statements and refrain from further inflammatory rhetoric, lest he face the consequences of his actions,” Isiguzoro added.

Reaffirming its loyalty to President Tinubu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated its commitment to peace, stability, and good governance in Nigeria.

“Our focus remains on fostering a Nigeria built on legitimate leadership, democratic principles, and a collective vision for national progress,” the statement concluded.
