THE Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering citizens by creating more opportunities for growth and success.
Speaking at the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode yesterday, the governor described the event as more than just a cultural celebration—it is a platform for tourism promotion, youth development, and entrepreneurship.
“Ojude Oba has evolved into a powerful vehicle for engaging young people, boosting local businesses, and showcasing our culture,” Abiodun said. “Our government is focused on expanding its impact across Ogun State.”
He emphasized the state’s ongoing investment in infrastructure, education, digital resources, healthcare, and support for small businesses to ensure inclusive development.
“No community will be left behind,” the governor assured. “To the vibrant youth of Ijebuland, we are committed to providing avenues for your success.”
Abiodun also highlighted the importance of cultural heritage in driving sustainable development and stressed that the unity and shared values of Ogun’s people remain its greatest strength.
“As we celebrate with horses, harmony, and heritage, let’s remember that our culture is a source of pride and a path to progress. We must work together for a brighter future for the next generation,” he added.
The festival took place at the Awujale Pavilion under the leadership of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. Attendees included Ondo State Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami (representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa), Minister of Culture Hannatu Musawa, and former Ogun State Governors Olusegun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel.
The vibrant celebration featured colorful traditional outfits such as Adire, Aso Oke, Agbada, and Iro and Buba, worn by over 30 age-based groups known as Regbe Regbe.
These groups paraded in homage to the Awujale, though only their leaders were granted access to the VIP section due to the large turnout.
Oba Johnson Okubenu, leader of the Bobaniyi Asiwaju Akile Ijebu Okunrin group (men born between 1962–1964), described the 2025 edition as exceptional.
“The setting and glamour this year are truly special,” he said, recalling past festivals held at the Awujale’s palace during his youth.
Oyinkansola, a female participant, expressed her joy after a year of preparation. “This is my hometown, and this is what we do. I’m so happy to be here and be part of this,” she said.
The event once again reinforced the cultural pride and unity of Ijebu people, showcasing the rich traditions that continue to shape Ogun State’s identity.
