The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the suspension of the commissioning ceremony of the 102 ultra-modern buses acquired for the state’s newly rebranded Edoline Mass Transit Scheme, following the death of the immediate former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Edoline bus launch event was initially slated for this week. However, it has been postponed as a mark of respect and national mourning.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Monday, July 14, 2025, Governor Okpebholo described the former president as a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey, whose contributions to governance must be honoured with dignity and solemnity.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey and governance history. As a people, we must reflect this period of national loss with appropriate solemnity. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the unveiling of the Edoline buses in honour of his memory,” he said.

The Governor extended condolences to the Buhari family, the people and government of Katsina State, and all Nigerians who are mourning the former leader’s passing.

He described the loss as monumental, saying it calls for reflection and unity across the country.

While acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the sudden postponement, Okpebholo assured invited guests, stakeholders, and the general public that a new date will be communicated soon.

He urged for understanding and continued support for the government’s vision.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-centred transportation reforms, assuring Edo residents that the Edoline Mass Transit Scheme will become operational shortly to improve intra-city commuting.

“We remain focused on delivering a reliable, modern public transport system that will enhance daily mobility and ease the lives of our people,” he stated.
