Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has urged Yoruba people to remain vigilant amid the security challenges facing the country.
Adeola Oloko, media aide to the monarch, said the call was made at Ode-Omu in Osun state during the Ode-Omu Day celebration at the weekend.
Ode-Omu Day is an annual event where residents review community development and plan for the future.
The monarch commended the people of Ode-Omu for their commitment to development under the leadership of Bolarinwa Oladipupo, alaye of Ode-Omu.
His words: “Let me use this occasion to urge Yoruba people to be vigilant amid security challenges facing Nigeria.
“I want to pledge the readiness of Ibadan to always support Ode-Omu’s development. That next year, an illustrious son and Parakoyi of Ibadanland, Chief Tunde Afolabi would be drafted to chair Ode-Omu Day.”
Jelili Adesiyan, former minister of police affairs, said Ibadan’s ancient warriors settled Ode-Omu in its present location in 1909.
He commended royal fathers, especially the Olubadan, for honouring the event.
Dignitaries at the occasion included Tajudeen Ajibola, Balogun of Ibadanland, Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Osi Olubadan, and Sharafadeen Alli, Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland and senator representing Oyo south.
