Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has commended Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola and the residents of the town for ensuring peace in the area.
Oba Ladoja said after over 20 years of sustaining peace in the town, Modakeke community was beginning to enjoy steady development.
The royal father spoke in Modakeke on Saturday during the grand finale of the 40th Akoraye Day celebrations, an annual event for fundraising to finance community initiatives and projects.
Speaking in Yoruba language, Oba Ladoja further said, “When I became Olubadan, Ogunsua and a delegation from Modakeke came to visit me, they told me about the connection between Ibadan and Modakeke. I quite agree with them. The visit took place in September.
“They also told me that Akoraye Day will hold and I promised to attend the event. I have just fulfilled that promise. I am happy to be here. When we were young, what we often hear was majorly about fight. But for sometime, that has stopped which is an indication of the Ogunsua’s commitment to peace. I commend him for the hard work.
“There can’t be progress in the atmosphere fill with unrest. That is why Modakeke is currently experiencing development. I note your cooperation towards achieving communal goals. I know the Governor (Adeleke) has noted all you mentioned as needs.”
Earlier, the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Toriola, said the community was enjoying steady growth owing to the advice from its indigenes and their dedication to matters relating to the town.
He charged them not to look back, but to rededicate themselves to efforts that would further raise the status of the town among communities in the state.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in his remarks at the event attended by the wife of Alaafin of Oyo, Abiwumi Owoade, assured the people of Modakeke that his administration will continue to prioritize infrastructural development of the ancient town.
While commending the people of Modakeke for sustaining the reigning peace, the Governor promised them that his administration has given approval for the construction of Famia road beside the AP/Orona/Itasin as well as the 2 kilometre Celestial/Ajape roads that have already been completed.
It was earlier reported that the Modakeke Community, called on the Osun State Government to come to its aid and fix several inner roads within the town and ease the hardship the residents are currently facing.
The community said many of the roads linking various settlements within were in a deplorable state, impacting negatively on social, cultural, and commercial activities.
This was disclosed by the chairman, 40th Akoraye Day planning committee, Prince Tunmbi Toriola, in Modakeke, at a press conference heralding activities for the annual celebrations.
Toriola, who said in a bid to address the infrastructural deficit that the town was experiencing, the community planned to raise a sum of N1billion for different developmental projects during the grand finale of this year’s edition of the Akoraye Day celebrations.
