The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has urged sons and daughters of Yorubaland to dismantle dirty shrines dedicated to deities such as Sango, Ogun, Osun, and others, describing such practices as unbefitting ways to honor their ancestors.
The monarch made this known in a post shared on his official social media page on Thursday, where he emphasized the need for cleaner and more dignified methods of ancestral reverence.
Oba Akanbi advised that Yorubas should replace unkempt shrines with more decent and organized symbols that reflect beauty, purity, and respect for the forefathers.
He stressed that preserving the dignity of Yoruba culture requires promoting positive representations of traditional worship, adding that ancestral reverence should not be associated with filth or disorder.
The Oluwo also encouraged Yoruba descendants to uphold the values of their heritage in a way that aligns with modern standards of cleanliness and cultural pride.
