Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his support for Bola Oyebamiji, to emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Omisore’s declaration follows President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of Oyebamiji, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Omisore was one of seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee due to alleged violations of party guidelines.
The other disqualified aspirants included: Former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi; Akin Ogunbiyi; Prince Dotun Babayemi; Senator Babajide Omoworare; Kunle Adegoke (SAN); Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.
Speaking on TVC News during the Politics Tonight program, Omisore stated that despite the initial agitations and his personal absence from the meeting where Tinubu’s choice was finalized, the party must follow the direction of its national leader.
“The party must follow the direction of its leader,” Omisore said, adding that he accepted the consensus arrangement and remains committed to working with the President’s decision.
Omisore, who described himself as “an old wine that tastes better” and claimed to have organic supporters, emphasized the need for the APC to overhaul its strategy ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
He noted that although he advised the party leadership on alternative approaches, he has no regrets about his past political decisions.
The former lawmaker stated that he would formally brief his supporters on the new development and the consensus decision.
