THE Ondo State’s Young Progressives Congress (YPP) has chosen John Akinmurele as its governorship candidate in the next state’s election in November 16.
The election was held at Akure, the state capital, today, with delegates from the state’s 18 local government districts participating.
In his speech, Dotun Ojon, the Chairman of the YPP in Ondo State, commended the party’s leaders. He urged all party members to conduct themselves appropriately during the election.
INEC officials were present to watch the exercise.
Delegates from the state’s 18 local governments were called out and lined up behind their favoured candidate.
At the completion of the activity, Williams Moses, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, announced the results.
He revealed that 89 of the 90 accredited delegates voted for Akinmurele in the election.
In his acceptance address, the YPP governorship candidate thanked the electoral committee for keeping the election orderly.
He appreciated both the delegates and the INEC observers who were present.
He then challenged the delegates to come up as young people and take on leadership roles adding that the YPP is poised to implement good governance in Ondo State.
During the exercise, the chairman of the election committee presented the candidate with the certificate of return and the party’s flag.
Candidate Akinmurele, is from Ilutitun, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State.
In 2005, the 43-year-old earned an Accounting Education degree from Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
He also earned a Master’s Degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 2013.
He worked in the Department of State Services (DSS) for 13 years before retiring voluntarily in 2022.
Akinmurele would face off against other candidates, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who just acquired the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, and Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others, in the state’s November 16, 2024 election.
