The Ondo State Government has promised to reduce neonatal mortality to zero per cent.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, made the promise on Monday during an interactive meeting with staff of the ministry in Akure.

Ajaka stated that the state, according to data by the National Demography Health Survey 2018- 2024, currently has five neonatal mortality per 1000 births, a drop from 31 deaths per 1000.

“For the first time in long period, neonatal mortality rate dropped from 31 per 1000 live births making Ondo State the best in the country,” he said.

Ajaka, who appreciated the state governor for deeming it fit to appoint him as a commissioner, promised to take the state’s health programme to the top.

According to him, the staff of the ministry must work together as team, asking all hands to be on deck and work assiduously to deliver the best.

The commissioner who frowned at late coming to work and abandoning one’s duty post, asked all staff to be diligent in their duty.

In his remarks, Dr Adeniran Ikuomola, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, pledged a total support and cooperation of the staff towards achieving the desired goals. (NAN)(www.nannnews.ng)
