The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has refuted claims it elected a new chairman following the death of Fatai Adams.
Mr. Ikantu Peretei, the party’s spokesman, stated this on Monday.
The clarification came after the Council of Young Leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, alleged plans by some party elders to replace the state’s acting chairman on allegations of anti-party activities.
Mr. Tola Alabere, the state Deputy Chairman, has been acting as chairman since Adams’ passing on February 14.
According to Peretei, the current State Executive Committee’s tenure will expire on August 3.
He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ondo State chapter wishes to state that no state chairman has been elected to replace the former Chairman, Fatai Adams.
“The PDP Constitution 2017 as amended has unambiguous provisions for replacement of officers due to death or removal.”
He further referenced the PDP Constitution which makes provisions for the replacement of officers who died or were removed from office.
“Article 47(6) of our constitution is very clear. Therefore, the purported congratulatory message, which has no author, is fake, baseless, unconstitutional and crafted to create problems where there are none,” noted
He condemned the fake congratulatory message as “mutinous” and a deliberate attempt to disrupt the party’s efforts to rally support for the PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, ahead of the November election.
“For all intent and purposes, the fake congratulatory message is mutinous and a calculated attempt to undermine efforts at rallying support for the PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr Agboola Ajayi at the November election,” he added.
