A fatal road crash on Otedola bridge, inward Secretariat along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, claimed the life of a trailer driver in the early hours of Friday.
Adebayo Taofiq, director of public affairs and enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said the incident involved a collision between two heavy-duty trucks transporting sand and granite.
Taofiq explained that the impact left the driver of the sand-laden trailer trapped inside the wreckage with critical injuries.
He said LASTMA rescue operatives extricated the victim and transferred him to the Lagos State Ambulance Service, which conveyed him to the General Hospital, Ikeja, where he was pronounced dead.
The LASTMA spokesperson added that the driver of the granite-laden trailer survived the crash without injuries.
“The principal incident involved a violent collision between two heavy-duty trailers, one laden with sand and the other conveying granite reportedly occasioned by a reckless contest for right of way,” he said.
“The forceful impact led to devastating consequences, resulting in the entrapment of the driver of the sand-laden trailer, who sustained fatal injuries and was later confirmed dead.”
