Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum, recently opened up about coaching the Super Falcons and upcoming players who have been impressive so far, Soccernet.ng reports.

Waldrum, who became the head coach of the Nigeria women’s national team in October 2020, is also the head coach of University of Pittsburgh Panthers women’s soccer team.

In an interesting episode of the Uncensored series by “The Super Falcons show”, Waldrum spoke about some of the members of the national women’s team and coaching the team generally.

When asked about a local talent who has caught his attention, Waldrum singled out Tosin Demehin, who also stood out for him during the 2023 Women’s World Cup tournament

“For me, the local players that have really caught my eye, that have done well would be like Demehin Tosin. You know we brought her on ad a young player coming in and just developing, and she’s just one that has gotten better and better and now she’s a very important piece of our team”. He said.

Deborah Abiodun’s performance also stood out for the Super Falcons during the 2023 campaign, even though a red card at the 2023 Women’s World Cup did not make her establish her full potential.

This was also noticed by 67-year-old American who made mention of midfielder, stating how she has progressed in her career from a local club.

He added: “I think you know Debbie. Even though she’s now playing with me in the US, we got her, you know, locally. I think she’s one of the best young midfielders in the world. I think she’s got a great future as well”.

Waldrum was also asked about the transition of the players from the U-17 team to the senior national team.

“There’s obviously a jump. I think Chris has one well. Even our U-17 coaching staff has really done a good job because we’re very competitive on the international stage with the U-17s and U-20s”. Waldrum stated.

The Super Falcons have been unbeaten in their last eight games, winning three games and drawing two  in their last five games.

Despite this result, the American based gaffer believes the 11-time WAFCON champions still need to improve.

“I certainly think there’s things we can do better. You know, I think between coaching staff, between the NFF, I think we could just get a little bit more support in some of the areas that we need it. Then I think this team, as I said, after the World Cup, can be one of the best teams in the world”. Said Waldrum.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria recently secured their tickets to play at the 2024 Olympics after 16 years of non-participate at the tournament.

They have been seeded in the same group with Spain, Brazil, and Japan, and will be hoping to deliver an exciting performance in a group that has been labeled as a group of death.
