OnePlus Open 2 to include a considerably thinner body, details emerge

The OnePlus Open 2 will feature a considerably thinner body, it would seem. This information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster. He shared some details on Weibo and has since deleted his post, but that didn’t prevent the details to stick around.

The OnePlus Open 2 will be thinner than its predecessor, quite a bit thinner

Just to be clear, Digital Chat Station is one of the best-known tipsters around, and one of the most accurate ones. In his post, he’s talking about the OPPO Find N5, to be fully transparent. The ž became the OnePlus Open for global markets. So, this is basically the OnePlus Open 2 he’s talking about.

If you’re wondering why is there no number ‘4’ here, well, that number is considered unlucky in China. As some of you may recall, we never saw the OnePlus 4 either, OnePlus went from 3 to 5.

So, how thin will this phone be? Well, based on what the tipster shared, it will be under 10mm thick. He teased a thickness of 9.Xmm. As a reminder, the thinnest book-style foldable at the moment is the HONOR Magic V3 at 9.2mm.

A “record-breaking” thinness was mentioned

It’s highly unlikely OPPO / OnePlus will be able to trump that, but the tipster did mention “record-breaking” thinness, so… who knows. Even if it’s not as thin, it would be much thinner than the OnePlus Open, which was not that thick to begin with. The OnePlus Open measures 11.7mm, and it’s thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, for example.

In addition to the thickness of the phone, the tipster shared some additional details. He said that the phone will also be lighter, which was to be expected. He mentioned a “waterproof design” too.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip is mentioned by the tipster, which is quite interesting. We were expecting to see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as the OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Needless to say, this is even better.

It will have three rear cameras and a “three-stage button”

A 50-megapixel main camera will sit on the back of the phone, with two additional cameras accompanying it. One of which will be a telephoto periscope camera, so the last one will almost certainly be an ultrawide unit.

A “three-stage button” was also mentioned, which is probably either the alert slider or an actual three-stage button, it remains to be seen. The last detail Digital Chat Station shared is the expected launch date of the OPPO Find N3. The phone is tipped to arrive in Q1 2025.

The OPPO Find N5 is coming in Q1 2025

We didn’t think that we’ll get the OPPO Find N5 / OnePlus Open 2 anytime soon, but it seems like it’s happening, but with a different release cycle. The OPPO Find N3 launched in October 2023, and its successor is expected in Q1 2025. The OnePlus Open 2 will arrive later on, most probably, but we’ll see.
