Nigeria-eligible midfielder Francis Onyeka is set to leave former German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen for a season-long loan at Bochum, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onyeka is one of the highly-rated players coming out from Germany. He has spent all his life in the Junior teams of Bayer Leverkusen, but he has failed to get capped at senior level.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder was called up to Bayer Leverkusen’s senior squad a few times in the last two seasons, and he got his senior debut. He featured once in the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal.

However, with players like Florian Wirtz, Amine Adli, and Jonas Hofmann all competing for the same position, it would be hard for him to get enough game time.

There have been speculations about his future due to his lack of game time at Bayer Leverkusen. Also, the club is set to undergo a significant shake-up this season, with coach Xabi Alonso leaving for Real Madrid and other top players set to leave for bigger clubs.

However, Onyeka’s future is close to being sorted for at least the next year. This is as Werkself Xtra reports that the 18-year-old is close to completing a season-long loan transfer to Bochum.

Onyeka still has two years on his contract at Bayer Leverkusen. So the club could get him to sign a contract extension before he leaves for Bochum.

On the other hand, they could make their decision based on his performance at Bochum.
