The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, on Tuesday, decorated five newly promoted officers with the rank of Brigadier General during a colourful ceremony held at the Theatre Command Officers’ Mess, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

The event, which drew a crowd of serving and retired military top brass, heads of security agencies, family members and well-wishers, marked a significant moment in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East.

In his remarks, Major General Abubakar described the promotion as a testament to the officers’ hard work, professionalism and loyalty.

“This promotion is a recognition of your competence, unwavering commitment, and the critical roles you’ve played in service to the nation,” he said.

He noted that Operation Hadin Kai remains the largest combat theatre in sub-Saharan Africa and commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the promotion.

“These officers are the engine room of OPHK. Their elevation is well-deserved,” he added.

Abubakar charged the newly decorated generals to uphold the Constitution, lead by example, and sustain high standards of professionalism.

“Your elevation comes with higher expectations. Stay loyal, embrace professional development, and serve with integrity,” he urged.

He also acknowledged the vital role of families in supporting military personnel.

“Behind every successful officer is a resilient family. We thank you for your sacrifice,” he said.

In a goodwill message, the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Essen Efanga, hailed the officers’ resilience and described their promotion as a “major milestone.”

“You are now not just implementers but policy-makers. This new role demands redoubled efforts and strategic thinking,” he noted.

Efanga encouraged the officers to contribute meaningfully to national security and the operational success of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Brigadier General Ikechukwu Ogundele expressed appreciation to the COAS, Theatre Commander, and General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu.

“We are grateful to God, the Army leadership, and our families. We pledge to remain dedicated to defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria,” Ogundele said.

The new Brigadier Generals are Ikechukwu Ogundele, Abubakar Sale, Suleiman Muhammed, Abdullafeef Idris, and Yusuf Kawu.

The ceremony featured official decoration, goodwill speeches, light entertainment and group photographs.
