Opposition Political Parties Move to Take Over APC-Controlled State, Set for Coalition

Opposition political parties in Katsina State have started talks to form a coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election. 

A former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, revealed this on Wednesday while speaking to stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina. 

Katsina State is currently led by Governor Dikko Umar Radda of the APC, who took office in 2023 after succeeding Aminu Bello Masari, also of the APC. 

Inuwa, who contested in the 2023 APC governorship primaries before switching to the PDP, confirmed that opposition parties were working together to unseat the ruling party. 

“We have commenced discussions with members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and even prominent APC members to form a coalition for the 2027 election,” he said. 

He also claimed that some APC members secretly support the movement. 

“It may shock you to know that some of the APC members who are supporting this movement are holding key positions in the APC government at the state and federal level,” Inuwa added. 

He explained that opposition leaders, including well-known politicians from both inside and outside Katsina, were close to deciding which party they would unite under for the 2027 elections. 

According to him, discussions have advanced significantly, and the goal is to remove the APC from power at both state and national levels. 

Inuwa previously served as the presidential campaign director for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election. 

Among those present at the meeting were former PDP National Secretary, Senator Umar Tsauri; former Senator representing Daura Zone, Ahmed Babba-Kaita; and PDP chieftain Ahmed Musa-Yar’adua.
