Besiktas President Serdal Ardal has indicated that the Turkish Super Lig club is ready to back out of negotiations for Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel due to what he termed “meaningless requests” from the player’s father, Footynaija.com reports.

Osayi-Samuel recently confirmed his departure from another Super Lig giant Fenerbahce after the Yellow Canaries opted against extending his stay at the Sukru Saracoglu Sports Complex after a five year association with the club.

Following his departure from Fenerbahce, the Nigeria international was reported to be eyeing a return to England while remaining open to offers from elsewhere in Europe including the Turkish Super Lig.

Available on a free transfer, a player of Osayi-Samuel’s quality wasn’t going to stay very long without suitors knocking on his door and Besiktas wasted  no time in contacting the Nigerian full-back with both parties reportedly agreeing terms over a three-year deal.

However, the move appears to have hit a brick wall at the moment with Besiktas deciding to hit a pause on the versatile full-back’s recruitment after accusing the player’s father of making meaningless demands during negotiations.

“We have decided to stop the transfer due to Osayi’s father’s meaningless requests that changed at the last minute,” Ardal said in a statement revealed by Turkish football news outlet Nefes

“We are waiting for news from the other side. If he complies with the conditions we discussed before, he will come, otherwise our alternatives are ready.”

While Besiktas are still open to acquiring the services of Bright Osayi-Samuel ahead of the 2025/2026 Super Lig season, the club has made it clear that the transfer will only happen based on the previously agreed terms.
