Oscar Isaac gets candid about a potential return to the Star Wars franchise. While it has been more than half a decade since the sequel trilogy came to an end, the door is still open for many of the newer characters to return to the beloved universe, but whether the actors want to is a different story.
In an interview with GQ, Isaac was asked if he would ever want to revisit the Star Wars universe. The Poe Dameron star made it clear that “[he’d] be open to it, although right now [he’s] not so open to working with Disney.“ He elaborated by stating: “But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.“
GQ added the editorial note that “This interview was conducted two days after ABC and Disney suspended production of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in response to comments Kimmel made following the death of Charlie Kirk.” The outlet also confirmed that “Kimmel was back on the air four days after this conversation took place.“
Isaac also addressed some previous comments he had made regarding a Star Wars return, as he told Deadline in a June 2020 interview that he would be down to play Poe again if he were ever in need of another house. He quipped by saying, “If I need another house or something,” which he now clarified with GQ more than five years later.
The 46-year-old star stated in the new interview: “Yeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ. Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much.” But in the end, he admitted: “I said a slightly dickish thing.“
While Lucasfilm and Disney haven’t made any comments on Poe’s future in the franchise, they are set to continue Rey’s story with Daisy Ridley, as the New Jedi Order movie is in development. However, as there is currently no set release date for her new film, it’s unclear whether Star Wars actors like Isaac could show up.
