The Governing Council of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, has organised a three-day retreat for its members on leadership and innovation.
The retreat, with the theme “Leadership, Innovation and Excellence: Building the Future of Our Institution,” took place in Ede, Osun State, between Tuesday, 19th and Thursday, 21st August, 2025.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the OSCOHEALTH Governing Council, Hon. Abayomi Adegoke, popularly known as Yomex, disclosed that the retreat provided an opportunity for reflection, learning, and strategic engagement.
He noted that the Council carries a sacred responsibility to safeguard the credibility and reputation of the institution.
Adegoke stressed that the Governing Council must focus on staff and students’ welfare, developmental projects, and the planned upgrade of the college into a Polytechnic of Health and Management Sciences.
He maintained that the retreat was timely as tertiary institutions globally face dwindling funding, rising accountability demands, and the need for greater competitiveness.
The Chairman added that participants would revisit strategic priorities, strengthen governance structures, and explore innovative avenues for revenue generation.
Adegoke, who described Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Architect of modern Osun State, said the presence of the attendees demonstrated their commitment to the growth, stability, and advancement of the College, which aligns with the vision of the governor.
Osun State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Sunday Adedipo Eluwole, in his keynote address, said synergy between the political class and bureaucrats is vital for sustainable institutional growth.
He explained that while politicians drive policy formulation, bureaucrats ensure stability and continuity, making cooperation between the two sides indispensable.
Eluwole highlighted governance, capacity building, adequate funding, and autonomy with accountability as key areas necessary to reposition the college for global relevance.
He urged participants to use the retreat to strengthen partnerships and generate actionable steps for improving health education in Osun State.
The Provost, Dr. Lateef Olanrewaju Raheem, expressed appreciation to the Governing Council, facilitators, and participants for their commitment to the success of the retreat.
He assured that resolutions reached during the sessions would be translated into concrete actions for the advancement of the College and the benefit of the State.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of papers by scholars from Osun State University and Obafemi Awolowo University.
The retreat brought together council members, education stakeholders, and experts who deliberated on strategies for building a stronger and more innovative institution.
