SUPER Falcons of Nigeria continued their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Queens in Casablanca, Morocco today.

The two West African rivals are already in host country Morocco for the tournament, which will kick off on Saturday.

Chiwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade struck for nine-time African champions the Super Falcons, while Alice Kusi got a late consolation for the Black Queens.

The Super Falcons were 2-0 up going into the break, with Ihezuo opening the scoring in the 34th minute and six-time African Women’s Player of the Year Oshoala, recently recalled after being out of the squad for some time, adding the second from the penalty spot moments before half-time.

Captain Ajibade made sure of victory for Justine Madugu’s side with the third goal six minutes after the restart as the Super Falcons followed up last week’s 0-0 draw with Portugal with a morale-boosting win.

Kusi netted a penalty two minutes from time to give Ghana some encouragement, but it was too little, too late.

The Super Falcons, seeking a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, are in Group B for the tournament with Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana.

Ghana are in Group C with Mali, Tanzania and defending champions South Africa.

The championship is scheduled for July 5 to July 26 across five Morrocan cities.
