Nigeria’s Super Eagles players who finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have formally received their national honours certificates, Soccernet.ng reports.
The players were also handed title documents for houses and land allocations promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The presentation took place on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the team’s hotel in Fez, Morocco, just hours before Nigeria begin their 2025 AFCON campaign.
President Tinubu had announced the rewards last year following the Super Eagles’ run to the final of the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished second after a 2-1 defeat by the hosts.
The brief ceremony was led by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, and attended by senior government officials and football administrators, including the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, and members of the National Assembly’s sports committees.

Super Eagles: Honours breakdown and government assurances
Speaking at the event, Dikko confirmed that the majority of the squad were awarded the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in recognition of their service to the nation.
Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) after emerging as Player of the Tournament at AFCON 2023.
Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen received the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), having previously been honoured with the MON. Both Troost-Ekong and Musa are not in Morocco for the AFCON, after they announced their international retirement on the eve of the tournament in Morocco.
Dikko said all housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos, as well as land grants in the Federal Capital Territory, had been fully processed and documented, stressing that the exercise reflected the President’s commitment to rewarding excellence and national service.
He added that similar reward packages approved for the Super Falcons and Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, had also been processed. While national honours certificates and housing title documents are ready for collection, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation are completing arrangements for the payment of the cash awards, valued at $100,000 per player.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the documents were handed to the players in camp, describing the development as a morale boost as the team refocuses on competitive duties.
The Super Eagles, who begin their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, will also face Tunisia on December 27 before concluding the group stage against Uganda three days later.
In a related gesture of support, players and officials were presented with Bay Ice x NFF Custom Edition wristwatches as the team sets its sights on claiming a fourth continental title.
