Osimhen vs Delap: Man Utd boss makes transfer choice between Galatasaray man & Ipswich ace

Manchester United have identified Victor Osimhen as their top striker target this summer, with manager Ruben Amorim determined to bring the Nigeria international to Old Trafford, Footynaija.com reports.

The 26-year-old Napoli forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has emerged as Amorim’s preferred choice ahead of what is expected to be a significant squad rebuild.

According to reports from The Mirror, Amorim has made it clear that Osimhen is the man to lead United’s attack – with other options, including Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, seen as secondary.

United are hopeful of securing a deal worth around £40million, taking advantage of Osimhen’s contract situation. With just a year left on his deal at Napoli, the Serie A side are under pressure to sell now or risk losing their prized asset for free next summer.

Despite being valued far higher, financial constraints tied to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules have forced United to pursue more cost-effective targets.

Osimhen, however, offers both value and pedigree. He has scored 29 goals in 34 appearances for Galatasaray this season and was instrumental in Napoli’s historic Serie A title win in 2022-23 – their first in 33 years.

Amorim believes Osimhen’s experience and proven goal record, particularly in European competitions, make him the ideal fit for United’s frontline. The move would also align with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision of building a young, ambitious squad with future resale value.

While Delap remains an option at £30m, Amorim sees Osimhen as a more ready-made solution, especially with Rasmus Hojlund struggling to justify his £72m price tag, managing just one goal in his last 28 appearances.
