Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is set to chair the 10th House of Justice Summit and Orange Ball Banquet scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Epitome Events Centre, Barnawa, Kaduna.
The annual gathering, themed “From Camps to Justice and Communities,” aims to shape national dialogue on ending Nigeria’s over two-decade-long insurgency and insecurity by prioritising justice for victims and accelerating the resettlement of displaced communities.
The event will feature Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN), Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, as the keynote speaker.
Other dignitaries expected at the summit include the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Marshall Katung; and the Second Secretary of the British High Commission in Nigeria, David Snelling.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the House of Justice, Gloria Ballason, said the theme reflects the urgency of shifting national attention from temporary relief to restoring justice and rebuilding communities.
She said, “This milestone event is particularly significant because it comes at a time when concerns are rising about foreign intervention and sovereignty in resolving Nigeria’s insecurity.
“Accepting the factual narratives of the various forms of insurgency and prioritising justice and the resettlement of displaced victims are necessary steps toward finding real and lasting solutions.”
Ballason noted that unending violent conflicts in Nigeria, especially in the North-East and North-West, have displaced millions, leaving many communities destroyed and victims in long-term uncertainty.
“Beyond feeding camps and building shelters, there is a moral and constitutional imperative to restore the dignity of victims through justice,” she said.
“We must ask: who is enforcing justice for those whose lands have become battlegrounds, whose homes were razed, and whose families are still missing? The time for the ruins to be rebuilt and for justice to be served is now.”
She said the summit would convene policymakers, legal scholars, defence officials, humanitarian actors, and development partners to examine existing legal and institutional gaps.
Participants will also propose actionable frameworks for transitional justice, victim compensation, and sustainable community reintegration.
Ballason added that there would be a panel session involving representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, international partners, and development agencies.
According to a statement from the House of Justice, the Orange Ball Banquet — which traditionally crowns the summit — will foster collaboration among individuals and organisations advancing human rights, social justice, and civic engagement across Africa.
“At a time when our nation is grappling with security challenges and displacement, initiatives like this remind us that justice is not abstract, it is about people, accountability, and rebuilding hope,” Ballason said.
She added that Osinbajo’s participation reflects a rising commitment to justice-centred approaches in Nigeria’s peacebuilding and policy deliberations.
Founded in 2010, the House of Justice has served as a civic hub for legal literacy, access to justice, and human rights advocacy.
Its annual summits have consistently drawn top jurists, lawmakers, activists, and international institutions to deliberate on issues shaping Nigeria’s democratic and social realities.
The 2025 summit marks a decade of sustained engagement in promoting accountability, transitional justice, and community rebuilding across Nigeria.
