The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande, has stated that residents of the state have resolved not to vote for the All Progressives Congress in future elections, citing what he described as the party’s past failures while in government.
Akande said the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke had reversed policies and outcomes associated with previous APC governments, particularly issues surrounding unpaid entitlements, which he said negatively affected pensioners in the state.
According to him, Governor Adeleke has recorded significant achievements within three years in office and has earned the support of residents for a second term. He made this known during a media briefing held in Osogbo on Thursday.
Responding to questions from journalists, Akande highlighted several infrastructural projects executed by the current administration and maintained that residents were prepared to re-elect Governor Adeleke for another term under the Accord Party platform.
He further stated that residents had rejected the APC due to hardship experienced during its time in power, adding that the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, does not pose a threat to the incumbent.
Akande said residents still recall their experiences under APC rule, which he claimed included widespread hardship and suffering.
The Accord Party chairman recalled that during the APC administration, pensioners were paid half salaries, which he said led to severe hardship, including the inability to afford medication. He added that cooperative funds were mismanaged and that several projects were abandoned during that period.
Akande explained that the present administration brought changes across the state, citing the flyover bridge at Oke-Fia and the spread of projects across various communities as evidence of improved governance and public acceptance.
He said the rejection of the APC was evident in the 2022 election and expressed confidence that the 2026 governorship election would further reflect the position of the people. Akande maintained that the performance of the governor would continue to speak for itself.
On party mobilisation, Akande said the Accord Party has functional structures across all local governments and wards in the state. He noted that the party is intensifying grassroots engagement to educate residents, especially those in rural areas, on its platform and the voting process.
He added that the party had established a community enlightenment committee tasked with reaching residents in areas without access to social media or electricity to share information on governance activities and voter education.
Akande also said the Accord Party maintains relationships with other political parties in the state. He recalled that several political parties attended the party’s primary election on December 10, 2025, in solidarity with the current administration.
He further noted that as Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun State, he continues to engage other political parties, stressing that sustaining governance achievements requires broad cooperation across party lines.
