THE Osun State Police Command has arrested Segun Ogunfunmilayo, a suspected cultist, for shooting a grocery seller in Ede after being asked to pay for an energy drink and cash he took.

The incident happened on March 8, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., in the Bihari/Ishola area of Ede.

Ogunfunmilayo had purchased an energy drink worth ₦500 and also took ₦400 in cash, promising to transfer ₦900 to the seller.

When the seller did not receive the transfer alert, he confronted Ogunfunmilayo to demand payment. This angered the suspect, who then pulled out a cut-to-size pistol from his bag and shot the victim in the left hand and right arm before fleeing the scene.

Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Adeola Adeoye, said the police, working with Civilian JTF, tracked Ogunfunmilayo to his hideout and arrested him.

A cut-to-size pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from him.

During interrogation, Ogunfunmilayo confessed to being a member of the Alora cult group. The police have confirmed that he will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
