The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Folasayo Salam, as its candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Salam, who was the party’s sole aspirant, emerged on Monday after the conclusion of the ADC governorship primary election.
The exercise, which was conducted with delegates drawn from across the state, saw Salam secure all the valid votes cast during the primary.
Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Osun ADC governorship primary election, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, gave a breakdown of the voting process.
“There were 535 delegates in total, comprising 482 from local government areas and wards, while the remaining 53 were special delegates,” Nwajiuba said.
He explained that 528 delegates were accredited for the election and that the same number of votes was cast.
According to Nwajiuba, eight votes were declared invalid, while 520 votes were valid.
“The total number of votes scored by aspirant Najeem Folasayo Salam is 520 votes,” he said.
He added that the conduct of the primary was in line with the party’s constitution.
Nwajiuba formally declared Salam as the party’s candidate for the governorship election.
“By the powers conferred on this panel by the constitution of the ADC, I, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, chairman of the panel, hereby announce that the candidate-elect and now candidate and flagbearer of the ADC for the Osun 2026 governorship election is Najeem Folasayo Salam,” he said.
