The Osun State Government has organized the Imole Circular Economy and Waste-to-Wealth Training as part of efforts to promote sustainability and innovation in the state.
The two-day programme was held on Wednesday, August 13, and Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Osun State Assets Management Building in Osogbo.
Speaking with newsmen, the Lead Technical Consultant to the Governor on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Professor Chinwe Obuaku, said the initiative is designed to teach youths and women how to transform waste into valuable products.
Obuaku explained that the training marks the first of its kind in Osun and coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Imole Recycling Hub.
She noted that the hub was established to promote green entrepreneurship, institutionalize recycling, and create opportunities for youths, women, and other stakeholders in the waste management value chain.
The consultant said participants are being equipped to become recyclers, upcyclers, and waste pickers within an ecosystem aimed at generating income from waste. She added that the programme seeks to ensure no one is left behind while contributing to the state’s climate action goals.
Professor Obuaku further noted that the government’s role goes beyond policy design and implementation, urging participants to take advantage of the opportunities being created.
She stressed that the training also positions beneficiaries as watchdogs and active contributors to environmental sustainability.
Also speaking, the General Manager of Osun Waste Management Agency, Oyewole Fatai Oladosu, said the training was to enlighten beneficiaries on the standard and modernized way to turn waste into useful products that will benefit mankind.
Oladosu emphasized that nothing is waste unless people waste it.
The beneficiaries commended the government’s effort while assuring them of real transformation to complement government initiatives towards a green economy.
